Frequently Asked Questions

What is Photobiomulation (PBM) and how does it work?

PBM (SunPowerLED) light therapy is the application of red (660nm) and near-infrared (810nm) light waves to diseased or injured tissues to support healing such as reducing inflammation, promoting regeneration and enhancing immune resilience.

PBM triggers photochemical changes in the body in the same way photosynthesis affects plants, or sunlight effects vitamin D synthesis.

“Every middle school child who studies biology will know what mitochondria are. They are the parts inside every one of our 37 trillion cells that make energy (ATP).

But when we are injured, stressed or just old, those mitochondria produce less ATP and more free radicals (ROS).

These ROS lead to inflammation (inflammatory cytokines), cell death, and the triggering of genetic weaknesses that lead to degenerative diseases such as osteoarthritis, dementia, Parkinson’s Disease, cancer, etc.

When we apply light at the right wavelength, intensity and time parameters, inflammatory cytokines are reduced, ATP is increased, and the body starts to heal more quickly.”

Is PBM safe and how is it different from Sunlight?

Yes! According to the PBM Foundation, “Photobiomodulation (PBM) uses red and near-infrared (NIR) light to improve cell function. As this is a natural process helping a natural process, PBM therapy has had no documented side-effects among over 100 million patient treatments since its discovery in 1967.” (https://pbmfoundation.org/testimonials-who-pbm-helps) No side-effects since 1967.

“Photobiomodulation (PBM) is a non-invasive, FDA cleared, medical technology.” (https://pbmfoundation.org/what-is-pbm/)

Does Light Therapy really work?

Yes! Light therapy has been used safely in thousands of clinics and is now endorsed by CDC, FDA, and the US Veteran’s Administration. Photobiomodulation (PBM), Low-Level Light Therapy (LLLT), and Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT), is a scientifically proven therapy method with decades of clinical studies from around the world (Source: https://pbmfoundation.org).
